Nurturing Ancient Wisdom in Young Minds
To encourage the learning of our ancient scriptures and introduce children to the timeless philosophical teachings of the Gita, Ramakrishna Mission Haflong hosts the unique ‘Srimad Bhagavad-Gita Shloka Chanting Competition’ for local school students.
This unique competition was born out of a shared vision with Smt. Nandita Gorlosa (former Hon’ble Minister, Govt. of Assam, and ex-MLA), who actively encouraged our center to initiate this spiritual and cultural platform for the youth. Each year, the event receives an enthusiastic response from students, guardians, and the heads of various educational institutions across the region.
Competition Structure & Preparation:
- Group A: Classes III – V
- Group B: Classes VI – VIII
- Group C: Classes IX – XII
Orientation and Training: We don't just host the competition; we guide the children through it. Prior to the event, a dedicated ‘Orientation Class’ is arranged at our Ramakrishna Mission Center to train the participants in proper pronunciation, rhythm, and the foundational meanings of the selected shlokas.
Every participating student receives an official Participation Certificate to honor their dedication, while top-performing students in each group are awarded special prizes.
Our Growing Impact: Recent Competitions:
The Inaugural Competition (7 September 2024)
Our very first edition was graced by Smt. Nandita Gorlosa (then Hon’ble Minister, Dept. of Power, Govt. of Assam) as the Chief Guest.
- The Challenge: Group A chanted 5 shlokas, Group B chanted 8 shlokas, and Group C chanted 10 shlokas.
- Participation: A wonderful starting batch of 72 students from nearby schools successfully took part, showcasing remarkable memory and devotion.
The Second Annual Competition (6 September 2025)
Building on the previous year's success, Smt. Nandita Gorlosa (then Hon’ble Minister, Dept. of Sports & Youth Welfare, Govt. of Assam) once again joined us as the Chief Guest, expressing deep enthusiasm for the project’s continuation.
- The Challenge: To focus on depth of recitation, the syllabus was adjusted to 4 shlokas for Group A, 6 shlokas for Group B, and 8 shlokas for Group C.
- Participation: The event grew exponentially, drawing 105 students representing 13 different regional schools, reflecting the growing community love for this scripture-chanting tradition.
