Celebrating the Power of Youth
Every year, Ramakrishna Mission Haflong celebrates the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as National Youth Day with immense joy and spiritual enthusiasm. Central to this celebration is our grand Youth Convention, an initiative designed to ignite the minds of the younger generation, foster a spirit of self-reliance, and instill the timeless man-making and character-building messages of Swamiji.
Our conventions regularly bring together hundreds of students, educators, guardians, and admirers for an enriching day of learning, inspiration, and cultural celebration.
Regular Highlights of the Youth Convention:
The day-long program generally commences in the morning and runs through the afternoon, leaving a deep impression on all who attend.
1. The Inaugural Ceremony
The auspicious celebration begins with deep reverence, featuring:
- Floral Tributes: A collective offering of flowers to Swami Vivekananda.
- Flag Hoisting: Elevating the spirit of patriotism and unity.
- Sacred Chanting: A powerful collective recitation of Swamiji’s Swadesh Mantra.
2. Inspiring Keynote Addresses & Discourses
Distinguished guest speakers—including local educationists, government officials, and monastics—frequently address the convention, sharing invaluable insights on topics such as:
- The contemporary importance of National Youth Day.
- The universal message of Swami Vivekananda.
- Swamiji's practical teachings on self-reliance and character-building.
3. Active Student Participation & Competitions
The heart of the convention is the energetic participation of the youth, who take the stage to express their devotion, intellect, and talents:
- Elocution Competitions: Students participate passionately, delivering recitations and analyses focusing on Swami Vivekananda’s historic Chicago Address.
- Dramatic Depictions: Creative presentations and speeches are given by students to depict memorable, life-changing events and messages from the life of Swamiji.
- Prizes & Recognition: To honor their hard work and dedication, participating students are awarded special prizes.
4. Educational Gifts & Fellowship
- Book Distribution: In our ongoing effort to spread knowledge, students are gifted inspiring books on the life and teachings of Swamiji to carry home.
- Community Feast: The day concludes in the true spirit of fellowship, where all attending students, teachers, guardians, and devotees are served a sanctified noon meal (noon prasad).
- 2025 Convention: Held on Sunday, 12 January 2025, drawing nearly 300 participants, including students, teachers, devotees, and admirers. The program concluded at 3:45 PM following a complete schedule of student elocutions and spiritual discourses.
- 2026 Convention: Held on Monday, 12 January 2026, drawing nearly 200 participants. This convention featured formal addresses by Chief Guest Sri Donpainon Thaosen (Executive Member, N.C. Hills Autonomous Council) and Guest of Honour Sri Shyamananda Choudhury (Professor, Haflong Govt. College), alongside active presentations from 32 competing students.
